Have chat read out loud on your stream
Read-aloud speaks chat messages with a voice, so you hear chat without looking away and your viewers hear it too. Free Microsoft voices work with nothing to install.
You need: The Multistream app on your PC, OBS
In the app
- Open Tools in the sidebar, then TTS. You land on its Engine page.
- Under Active engine, keep Built-in TTS for free voices with nothing to install.
- Under Audio output device, leave the system default, or pick a separate output if you route audio yourself. Set Master volume.
- Open the Voices page under TTS and click Add voice. A free Microsoft voice is added.
- Click Test next to the voice. You hear a test line.
- Open the Who gets read page. Under Per-platform, turn on the chats that should be read, then pick Who gets TTS.
- In OBS, make sure Desktop Audio is not muted in the Audio Mixer, so viewers hear the voice too.
Viewers can pick their own voice with !voice and a voice name. Change these commands under Built-in chat commands on the Behavior page.
Turn on Skip links and Skip commands so the voice doesn't read web addresses or !commands.
On the website
- Sign in to the Multistream app on your PC with the same account. The app can be open or closed while you change things here.
- Open Read-aloud in the dashboard sidebar, under On stream.
- Pick Voices to see your voices. With the app open you also see the Live queue of messages waiting to be read.
- Pick Who gets read to change which platforms and viewers are read.
- Pick Behavior to set queue limits and chat commands. With the app open, changes reach your PC right away; with it closed, as soon as it opens.
The voice engine and the speaker it plays on are set in the app, not on the website.
With the app closed, your changes are saved to your account and show on your stream as soon as the app opens. The first time, open the app once so your current setup is saved to your account.
