How to stream to multiple platforms for free

Free multistreaming is possible, but it comes with one condition: your own internet does the work. Every platform needs its own copy of your stream, and when you multistream for free, those copies leave your PC. Two platforms at 6,000 kbps is about 12 Mbps of upload; three is about 18.

The free Multistream app for Windows does exactly that, with no limit on stream length and no watermark. If your upload can't carry it, Multistream Cloud (Pro, $10/mo) uploads once and sends the copies for you.

How much upload you need

Add up the bitrate of every copy and leave some room: about your OBS bitrate × the number of platforms, plus 20 to 30% headroom. A 6,000 kbps stream to two platforms needs about 15 Mbps of steady upload; at 4,500 kbps it's about 11.

The app's Speed test checks what your connection carries. If it's close, lower OBS's bitrate a little, or send fewer platforms from your PC.

Multistream for free with the Multistream app

  1. Download the Multistream app for Windows 10 or 11 and open it.
  2. Go to Multistream → Go live and set Where the relay runs to This PC.
  3. Open Setup guide and click Add a platform for each platform. Twitch, YouTube and Kick accounts you've connected in the app add in a click; the others take their stream key.
  4. Install Multistream for OBS and open OBS. Without Pro, the Multistream dock sends your stream through the app on this PC, so keep the app open.
  5. Click Go live on 2 in the dock. Your PC uploads one copy for each platform.

The app also has chat from every platform in one place, alerts, overlays and a chat bot, all free.

Tips for multistreaming from your PC

Use a cable, not Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi upload speed rises and falls, and when it dips, every platform stutters at once.

Keep your bitrate steady. Use CBR in OBS and a bitrate that leaves room: if the Speed test says 20 Mbps, two copies of 6,000 kbps fit, three are too close.

Stop big uploads while you're live. Cloud backups, game updates and file syncing all take upload from your streams.

Check before every stream. The app's pre-stream check looks at each platform's stream key and rules, so nothing goes wrong once you're live.

Keep OBS's own settings sensible. H.264 video and a keyframe every 2 seconds work on every platform; the settings check tells you if OBS is set differently.

When the cloud makes more sense

Move the copies to Multistream Cloud (Pro, $10/mo, up to 12 platforms) if your upload is the limit, if you stream to three or more platforms, or if your connection sometimes drops: the cloud keeps your platforms live on your BRB clip for up to 30 minutes while OBS reconnects. From your PC, a drop ends every stream.

Switching is one setting in the app: Where the relay runs → Multistream Cloud. Your platforms stay as they are.

Questions, answered

Is there a free way to multistream?

Yes. The free Multistream app for Windows sends your OBS stream to each platform from your own PC. Your upload carries one copy per platform.

How many platforms can I stream to for free?

As many as your connection supports. Each platform takes one copy of your stream from your PC, so the Speed test tells you how many fit.

Is free multistreaming bad for my stream?

Not if your upload has room. If it doesn't, every platform's stream suffers at once, so run the Speed test first and leave headroom.

Does the free app add a watermark?

No. Your stream goes out exactly as OBS sends it.
