Keep your stream live if OBS or your internet drops

If OBS crashes or your internet drops, your platforms normally end the stream and viewers leave. With disconnect protection, viewers see a "be right back" screen and you come back on the same stream.

You need: A Multistream account with Pro, Streaming through Multistream

On the website

  1. Open Disconnect protection in the dashboard sidebar, under Stream.
  2. Turn on the switch next to Keep my platforms live if I drop. The badge next to it turns to On.
  3. Under What viewers see, click Choose a template to pick an animated BRB screen, or Pick a clip or image to use your own file.
  4. If you picked a template, set it up and save it:
    • Type your text in Title and, if you like, a Second line.
    • Pick a look under Style.
    • Click Use this BRB screen. A preview plays on the page once it's ready.
  5. Under How long to wait, set how many minutes the BRB screen stays up before the stream ends (1 to 30).
  6. If you like, turn on Show the BRB screen when my picture stops changing under If your picture freezes.

Needs Pro. Without it you can still set up your BRB screen; click See Pro to turn protection on.

Ending the stream in OBS on purpose still ends it everywhere.

Leave the freeze switch off if you ever show a still picture, like a "starting soon" image.

Click Use a plain screen to go back to a plain screen instead of your clip.

In the app

  1. Open the Go live section on the app's left rail, then click Disconnect protection.
  2. Turn on the switch on the Disconnect protection card.
  3. Next to BRB screen, click Choose a template or Pick a clip or image.
  4. Next to Wait for OBS, type how many minutes the platforms should wait.
  5. Test it: while live, turn off your Wi-Fi or unplug your internet cable for a few seconds. Your platforms show the BRB screen, then switch back to you when it's back.
